A Kitchen Plate Rack – Not Just For Storage Anymore
We most often think of a as a place to store your dishes as they dry. While these racks are very functional for this purpose, they can also add a bit of style to your kitchen’s decor if you find one that looks great.
You can easily find a basic kitchen plate rack that will provide a sturdy spot to hold your plates as they dry. You can also purchase plate racks that are made from stainless steel, plastics or iron to match the rest of your kitchen. If you are using warm colors or have a traditional or country themed kitchen, a wooden plate rack would be the way to go. Wood always adds warmth and a feeling of security and strength wherever it is used in your home. In a more modern kitchen, you may want to consider a stainless steel plate rack for clean lines and a more contemporary look.
Traditional plate racks usually hold the plates in an upright, vertical position, between wooden slats. There is the standard version that sits on the counter next to the sink to hold drying dishes. These plate racks come in handy if you prefer to hand wash your dishes after dinner. You may not have enough dishes to fill up a dishwasher, or you have plates that are better off washed by hand. You might put the plates away in a cabinet after they dry or even keep them stored on the plate rack until they are needed again. If you have the room, it is nice to move the plates in the rack to a separate place once they are mostly dry. This frees up your counter space and allows the plates to have a appropriate place to be displayed.
There are also some other interesting styles of plate racks that will add a decorative impact to your kitchen. Beautiful wooden plate racks with 2 or three levels that hang on the wall can be lovely as well as practical. You can find them in natural wood, painted, or even with a shabby chic paint finish. Some of the racks even have hooks for mugs at the bottom. Make sure that you secure a kitchen wall plate rack securely.
If you are building a new home, you may want to consider having a kitchen plate rack built right into an open cabinet. These kitchen cabinet plate racks are very convenient and add a great look to your kitchen, especially if you love your dishes!
While most people use a wall plate rack to display a few plates permanently, there is no reason why you cannot take the plates down and use them and then return them to the wall rack. This is actually a great use of a beautiful plate when you think about it – enjoy eating from it and then enjoy looking at it on the wall. If you have antique dishes that have been passed down to you, this would be a great way to enjoy them every day.
Of course, if you have small children (or clumsy adults!) you may want to keep your most cherished dishes on display except for special occasions.
